You know those spiffy t-shirts that are awarded to our Citizens of the Month? How about those handmade bottle totes you’ve seen on Twitter? Well, now’s your chance to pick them up for yourself, as well as many other beer-centric goodies, in the Beer Citizen Shop!
In addition to Beer Citizen swag, you’ll also have the opportunity to pick up several other awesome items we recommend any Citizen should own, from glassware to books to homebrew equipment. These items are sold by Amazon, and we just make a small percentage as an affiliate store.
We’ll just come out and say it… Beer Citizen is a labor of love. We’ve made it a point to keep the apps, the site, and everything it provides free of charge. The opening of the Beer Citizen Shop gives you the opportunity not only to help support the site (servers ain’t cheap!), but also to help spread the word to your fellow beer enthusiasts, and look sharp while you’re doing it!
If there’s ever anything else you’d like to see us offering in the shop (beer cozies? hats? flight paddles?), let us know via Facebook or Twitter and we’ll see what we can do! In the meantime, thanks for supporting Beer Citizen, and happy shopping!
Behold, the results of Beer Citizen's 2013 Year In Beer! All the graphs and numbers you see have been compiled based on reviews, traits, and other data we've gathered from your activity on Beer Citizen in 2013. A big thank you to all the citizens who helped us grow this past year. 2013 was our first full year up and running, and it's been a fun ride, thanks to you all. We look forward to bringing you lots of new features, more beer tools and data, and of course sharing many more beers with you in 2014!

Wed like to Congratulate Ron for becoming our newest Citizen of the Month! He’s earned himself a free Beer Citizen t-shirt for his consistent long-term efforts of adding quality data when he reviews beers, adding new beers to our database, and traveling around the US taking the apps where he goes. Give him a follow, and remember, you too, could win the honor (and the awesome shirt). Just keep that data (and new beers, corrections, photos, etc.) coming in!

If one doesn’t pack the tasty brews, can one really be camping? Of course, it’s just a whole lot better with beer. With that settled, the question is this: bottles or cans? For the time being, bottles still offer far greater selection but cans are far more convenient. When you venture into the wild for a night under the stars, how do you choose which beers to bring?
Top rated beers, and new ways to browse!
Citizens have been asking for this feature, and now it’s here. You can now check out the list of the top 20 rated beers on Beer Citizen. Ratings are calculated using the average (mean) of each citizen’s most recent overall rating value. Each beer must have at least three unique ratings to be eligible. Don’t see your favorite in the list? Don’t agree with one you do see? Well, make sure to review the beer, as every vote counts.
To take further advantage of this new feature, we’ve revised the browse beers page on the site and the mobile apps to include a quick view of the top beers. On the site, this includes a new interface to more easily browse and discover great beers. As always, you can still access the full list of all the beers.
We hope you enjoy the new features… as always, we’d love to hear your feedback. We’ve got more great things on the way, so stay tuned!
Beer Citizen app for Android!
It’s here and it’s free! We’re excited to announce that the Beer Citizen app for Android phones and tablets is now available, for free, on Google Play. Now Android users can take Beer Citizen with them to the pub to review, research, and share beers on the go. You can also add beer, brewery and profile photos to share with other Citizens. The app is compatible with all Android devices running version 2.2 or higher, including a wide variety of phones and tablets. As always, if you don’t have an Android or iOS device, you can still use the desktop and mobile web versions of Beer Citizen.
The mobile web version of Beer Citizen is here! You can now take Beer Citizen with you to the pub! You can review, research, and share beers from the comfort of your barstool. All the essential features of the desktop site have been refined into a smartphone-friendly web app. It’s brand new, so we look forward to hearing your questions and feedback!
The home screen lets you search and browse for beers, access and edit your profile, or quickly access recent activity.
When browsing beers, you can view beers that have recently been reviewed, find a beer by style or country of origin, search for beers and breweries, or view the entire beer database. If you don’t find the beer you’re looking for, you can start the process of adding one from this screen.
When you get to a beer’s profile, you can quickly see the community’s rating and aggregated trait data. You can also view the beer’s description and vital statistics, reviews, activity and followers. Most importantly, this is where you can add (or update) your review.
When reviewing a beer, you can jump between the four trait categories, enter any number of traits and use the sliders to adjust the intensity of each. Add your overall rating, any tasting notes you’d like, check in at a location if you’re so inclined, and you’re done! Mobile photo uploads will be available soon in the native apps for iOS and Android (coming soon!).
By all means, let us know if you spot any issues, or think of any ways we can make the process of reviewing, finding, or adding beers any easier. Our goal is to make this as simple as we can, while still providing you with a powerful tool to review, discover, and share great beers.
Head on over to beercitizen.com on your smartphone now to get started! Cheers!
